Let's begin our day with a prayer.
Dear God,
Bless me as I learn today. Help me grow in love and kindness, more like Jesus everyday.
Amen.

Today our sight words to practice are: be, for, how, is, this, will
These are words you have seen in your reading, and words you have been practicing. Practice these words with your 3x5 flash cards or any others that you have made. For extra practice, write them in shaving cream, rainbow write them, write the room, or use scrabble letters to spell them. Be sure to practice all six of them.

Our story for today is "Duck & Goose" The story is written and illustrated by Tad Hills. What does the author and the illustrator do? This story is fantasy, which means it is a make-believe story about things that could never happen in real life.
Before we begin: Look at the cover of the story: Who do you think the main characters are? Let's read and find out what happens to Duck & Goose.

Questions following the reading. Why do you think that Duck and Goose thought it was an egg?
( because it was round, because Duck & Goose are birds, and birds lay eggs) At the beginning of the story were Duck & Goose friends? Do Duck & Goose solve their problem? How do you know?
They begin to share the egg. They start to call the baby bird they are expecting "our baby". The words at the end of the story don't say that they become friends, but how might you know that they do? ( They are playing together and sharing the ball.)

Please write a sentence telling what your favorite part of the story was and why. Then be sure to illustrate your sentence.
My favorite part of the story was______________________________because___________________.
Remember to start your sentence with a capital letter, use finger spaces between the words, and punctuation at the end.
I would love to see pictures of your sentences :)

Warm up with Jack Hartmann's video adding to 10.
Practice these facts to 10. The children can use any objects/counters to help them add, and fingers work too.
You can write these facts on a piece of paper for them to answer.

In your math composition books ( the one with the numbers) students will illustrate the following story problem, a scratch piece of paper works great, too!
I needed 10 buttons for my raincoat. I already had 6. How many more buttons did I need?
Make sure they write the addition problem to go with it: 10= 6+4
Practice writing your numbers 1-20 in your book for extra practice.
